Here I have HTC One M8 and let me show you how to enter the recovery mode on the following device

So at the very beginning let me start by holding a power key right here

Let's choose restart and after you tap restart again you have to start holding volume down immediately

Keep holding this key for the whole time. And release volume down as soon as the bootloader mode pops up

Here you can navigate by using both volume keys. Let's scroll down to highlight the recovery and press power key to choose it

As soon as the following image pops up let's start holding volume up and while holding

volume up press power key once. That's it. As you can see the Android system recovery is on the screen

You can accomplish here update from SD card, update from phone storage, update from cache

You may also wipe data factory reset or wipe cache partition. If you would like to quit this mode let's choose the first option which is reboot system now
